A Senior Director member of The Acheson Group (TAG) has retired and we are looking for an experienced professional to complement our expert team that helps clients in the food and agriculture industries meet the challenges of the rapidly evolving food safety and regulatory environment. TAG is well known as a leader in the food safety consulting field with a winning team that is focused on client needs. With a steadily expanding client base across North America, Asia and more recently Latin America and Europe, TAG is poised for further growth.

ideal candidate we are looking for:Experience15+ years of experience as a recognized leader in the food industryExperience conducting food safety risk assessments in food processing plantsExperience preparing comprehensive, clear and concise scientifically based written technical reportsUnderstands the trends, needs and requirements as well as a vision for the future of the food industryExperience in identifying emerging trends and successfully translating into commercial opportunitiesExperience networking in relevant external organizations, universities and government entities as an industry expertExperience working in the intersections of food safety, science, regulations and public health as related to emerging threats and evolving regulation and world economicsExperience working in the regulatory landscape as it relates to food safety and public healthActive in service and/or leadership roles on influential food safety, scientific, regulatory and/or public health commissions, boards and committeesKnowledgeIn-depth expertise in several of the following areas:A technical subject related to safe food production (e.g., hygienic design of facilities/equipment, microbial environmental monitoring)Manufacturing of food products, including primary production (e.g., agricultural inputs, husbandry practices), human and animal health, foodborne hazards and diseaseAgriculture and related food safety practices throughout the food supply chain, including manufacturing and retail/foodserviceFood regulatory requirements such as those overseen by state, federal (e.g., USDA, FDA, CFIA) and other government jurisdictionsFood science and food processing technologiesRisk mitigation strategies for food hazardsFood importing, exporting, storage, and distributionGlobal Food Safety Initiative (GFSI)Interface of food safety and public health (e.g., food workers and communicable diseases)Overall Skills and AbilitiesExceptional communication and presentation skills to positively represent TAG with key stakeholders including clients, universities, government agencies, scientific communities and related industry organizationsLiaising/advising/supporting clients with highest quality technical and regulatory advice, while recognizing economic and reputational factors for clientsAbility to travel frequently (up to 75% of the time)Working independentlyWorking remotely as part of a virtual teamProblem solving and good judgementManaging multiple evolving priorities and meeting timelinesEducationAdvance degree preferred (MS, PhD or other doctoral degree) in food science, microbiology, public health or related field or equivalent professional experienceServes as a Subject Matter Expert in food safety and scientific affairs/regulatory affairs/public health, both domestically and internationallyAssesses customer impact and provides TAG support and response to food safety scientific/regulatory/public health existing and emerging trends and issues in the markets we serveSolves issues involving clients, regulatory agencies, technical trade matters and food standards organizations, which requires a strong sense of creativity, tact, and decisivenessWorks with Marketing and Operations on identifying new business leads and growth opportunitiesLeads new TAG business initiatives, prioritizes/implements execution strategy and ensures alignmentAssists marketing and operations by delivering high level technical messages around food safety scientific/regulatory/public health problems and solutions to key customersHelps in identifying external network of industry experts, government, academia and private industry contacts to maintain and enhance linkages to the scientific/regulatory/food safety and public health communityContributes to external publications strategy in alignment with TAG branding and marketing goalsIdentifies opportunities and gaps which lead to the establishment of TAG as the “go-to” leader in food safety and scientific topics/regulations/public healthIdentifies technology/commercial partners with existing interventions or potential solutions that fit the overall TAG food safety and scientific/regulatory/public health strategyRepresents TAG by participating on committees, boards and conferences, and delivering presentations to customers, academia, government, and other external entitiesIdentifies threats and understands our competitive advantages and translates into commercial opportunitiesKeeps abreast of the latest innovations in the food and related industries and facilitate awareness of new regulatory changes, processes, technology, systems and proceduresProvides input to the executive leadership team on
