Program Director

Travel: National/International as required

Position Summary:

The Program Director animates the Conference mission by offering members relevant and innovative programs that educate and strengthen formators in their ministry of initial and ongoing formation and by serving vowed religious in their lifelong journey of discernment and transformation. The Program Director provides strong leadership and strategic vision through a collaborative process that engages the Religious Formation Conference (RFC) community (Staff, Board and Members) in discerning the emerging horizon of religious life and the essential programs needed for the times.

Job Responsibilities:

Visioning and Program Planning

– Works collaboratively with Program Advisory Committee to discern, plan and evaluate current and future programs.

– Develops a plan of action for implementing programs from design to completion to evaluation constitutive of dates, locations, audience/s, and speaker/s.

– Stewards the Conference’s core programs: ForMission, Life Commitment Program, and Orientation to Formation.

– Strategically maps out, in collaboration with staff, an annual program schedule that aligns with the larger Conference calendar.

– Seeks input and feedback from membership relative to programs, services, potential speakers and facilitators and shares this information with staff.

– Monitors and analyzes trends in religious life and the relevancy of those trends to RFC’s strategic direction in program offerings.

– Prepares articles and/or presentations for members and Member Areas, as requested.

Collaboration with RFC Staff

With Operations Manager:

– Engages in regular collaboration with the Operations Manager regarding program logistics (speaker contracts, registration, potential sites, meals, meeting rooms, housing, travel, etc.), program budgets and pricing strategy.

With Associate Director:

– Coordinates with the Associate Director the strategic marketing of all programs to include e-mail correspondence, collateral materials, exhibits, giveaways, etc.

– Provides the Associate Director program material for InFormation, the Conference’s quarterly bulletin, the Annual Report, and other timely information for members and RFC partner organizations.


– Provides overall direction of webinars that include presenters, topic/theme, and process. Works with the Associate Director in the management of the logistics of webinars to include promotion, registration, evaluation, and the posting of recordings for member access.

With Total RFC Staff:

– Works collaboratively with Staff on the implementation of strategic goals, especially those goals that have an impact on Conference programs and services.

– Collaborates and supports the work of the Together Program Director.

– Participates in regular Staff meetings and processes that foster a cohesive team atmosphere.

– Serves on the Congress Planning Committee convened by the Associate Director.

– Assists the Congress Planning Committee in identifying potential keynote speakers, workshop leaders, and other facilitators.

– Contacts and invites workshop speakers in collaboration with Conference Staff and the Congress Planning Committee.

– In concert with the Staff, contributes to creating a hospitable and meaningful Congress experience for all members and invitees.


– Stays current on technological trends and strategies, especially as it relates to program delivery and effective adult pedagogy.

– Works with the Associate Director to ensure online educational opportunities are accessible to all participants

– In concert with the Associate Director, coordinates a synchronized approach to external program messaging, calendaring of events, and email correspondence.

Position Requirements:

– Demonstrates passion for the mission and vision of religious life.

– Supports the Conference’s mission through effective program development and management.

– In collaboration with the Associate Director, promotes RFC programs effectively to membership and other relevant constituencies.

– Ability to work collaboratively in a team atmosphere with Staff, membership, and partners.

Education and Experience:

– Master’s degree in Theology or equivalent/related credential and professional experience.

– Experience in initial and ongoing formation ministry and/or faith formation.

– 3-5 years of experience in program development, design, coordination, implementation, and evaluation.

– Proficiency with technology with a particular emphasis on its use in instruction and training.

– Strong writing and communication skills.

– Experience with basic group facilitation skills and group processes.
