Asylum Project Program Manager

World Relief

World Relief Chicagoland is hiring a Program Manager for its Asylum Project, a program located within its Chicago office location that provides holistic case management services to asylum seekers.

This position includes case management responsibilities, such as assistance in accessing public benefits, housing, medical service provision, employment, career development, and educational referrals while participant’s asylum applications are being processed.

The Program Manager will also be responsible for maintaining and establishing new relationships with immigrant legal services providers and other Chicago community service providers that can support asylum applicants.

Additionally, the Program Manager will collaborate with church partners in conjunction with our Church and Volunteer Engagement team on a new initiative to connect asylum seeking families with volunteer support teams.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assist asylum seeking families in accessing and understanding public benefits such as Medicaid, All Kids, VTTC and WIC Orient participants to the healthcare system including making appointments, arranging transportation, and communicating important information to physicians Assist families or individuals in need of housing to find safe shelter according to their needs and capacities Conducting intake assessments for new families, developing service plans and documenting each participant’s progress Establish new and maintain existing relationships with immigrant legal services and community organizations within the Chicagoland area that can be utilized as referral sources to the benefit of program participants Work collaboratively with Church and Volunteer Engagement to connect asylum seeking families with volunteer support teams and provide appropriate follow up support to both families and volunteers Assist asylum seekers in finding employment and career opportunities once they obtain their Employment Authorization Document Researching and keeping abreast of updates to immigration policies and procedures that may be relevant to program participants Provide occasional transportation assistance to appointments and make planned home visits as is necessary Work closely with other staff, interns, and volunteers to provide holistic services to each family Attend department and office-wide meetings Coordinate the team of interns dedicated to support asylum seekers Other responsibilities as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Detail-oriented, organized, and able to follow through on projects and assignments Excellent interpersonal and relational skills Strong mediation and problem-solving skills Knowledge of the immigrant experience Experience and/or training in working with traumatized populations or trauma informed care Desire to engage the local church in partnership with our service to asylum seekers Demonstrated ability to multi-task, problem solve, and exercise critical thinking skills Demonstrated ability to work sensitively and effectively in a cross-cultural setting Demonstrated ability to remain flexible and work in a fast-paced environment Willingness to advocate on behalf of clients with service providers, governmental organizations, and employers Valid Driver’s License and good driving record is preferred Fluency in an additional language such as French, Portuguese, Swahili, Lingala, Arabic, or Mandarin is desirable
REQUIREMENTS:
Personal Christian faith and a heart for service to vulnerable people

Working knowledge of the immigrant experience and the asylum application process
Ability to work a flexible schedule including occasional instances of early mornings, evenings, and weekends
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
Bachelor’s degree required, preferably with at least one year experience in an office environment
