Senior Buyer- Electronics

This is a Contract position in Mclean County, IL posted January 15, 2020.

Summary: Purchases production materials, electronic components, PCBA, FPC, and sub-assemblies in support of the companys operations utilizing new and/or existing suppliers. In addition, manages quality, cost, and on-time delivery of goods and services of assigned supply base. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Negotiates supply contracts that meet or exceed supply, material quality, and commercial goals and objectives as set by the company Prepares and issues RFQs to suppliers for new and existing materials and services Evaluates vendor quotes and services to determine most desirable suppliers Studies market trends, interviews vendors, and identifies new domestic and global suppliers Works with Supplier Quality Engineering (SQE) for source selection and Kaizen activities Performs problem solving activities with suppliers, and establishes continuous improvement targets Acts as resource person for new product launch activities, and participates in design process reviews Identifies and works with suppliers and internal resources to resolve delivery problems Releases requisitions, prints out orders, and transmits orders electronically to suppliers Opens and closes orders as needed to maintain inventory levels Processes reschedules on past due orders Communicates with suppliers on EDI problems, testing, etc Helps resolve invoice problems with Accounting Department Provides information to freight provider regarding all expedites (other than supplier past due) Runs various reports, as required, and prepares information for ECM presentations Learns and keeps current on manufacturing processes, market trends, and technical developments Performs other duties as assigne Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Electronic Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related discipline 4 to 6 years of purchasing, quality, and/or manufacturing experience in the Electronic Manufacturing Service (EMS) industry to include experience with: a. Purchasing electronics items such as resistors, capacitors, chips, Dios, PCB, FPC, PCBA, coils, and other electronics components, sub-assemblies, and packaging b. Contract negotiation and management Masters Degree and/or experience in global sourcing, supply chain management, and evaluating and monitoring vendor performance is preferred Six Sigma Green Belt or similar certification (Six Sigma Black Belt is preferred) Strong knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following areas: a. Knowledge and understanding of manufacturing in the EMS industry, including manufacturing processes and testing (SMT, through hole, selective soldering, conformal coating, shielding, potting, EMC, ICT, Hi-Pot, etc.), and the associated cost structures b. Working knowledge of TS-16949 requirements, including PPAP and 8D c. Organizational and planning skills d. Problem solving and analytical skills with attention to detail e. Computer skills ability to proficiently use standard business software (including MS Office) f. Written and verbal communications and presentation skills g. Interpersonal skills ability to professionally and confidently interact with individuals at all levels of authority and maintain composure in pressure situations
