-The Dean is responsible for general administration and must provide strategic vision and operational excellence.

– Direct, coordinate and evaluate the activities of personnel, including faculty, support staff and other personnel

– Management of financial resources

– Grantsmanship

– Knowledge of accreditation standards

-Enthusiasm, willingness and a demonstrated ability to participate in fundraising and engage donors, alumni and the campus and external community

– Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions

Job Summary

The Dean functions as the chief executive officer of a major unit engaged in programmatic aspect of the Campus/University mission. Responsible for general administration, operational excellence, strategic vision and execution of the unit’s policies.

Job Description

1. Provide leadership, direction, and overall administration for the development, coordination, and implementation of programs, activities, and professional services.

2. Formulate, initiate, implement, and interpret policies relating to the operation of the units.

3. Establish strategic goals and objectives for the units reporting to the Dean’s Office.
3a. Recruit and retain students and faculty
3b. Develop and apply strategies to improve student outcomes and student experience
4. Establish, build and develop positive relationship with administration, faculty, students and staff
5. Manage budgets, and fostering professional engagement and development of faculty and students

6. Responsible for planning, evaluation, staffing, and resource allocation for all units reporting to the Dean’s Office.

7. Communicate with and serve as a resource to colleges, departments, campus offices, community organizations, regarding services and issues.

8. Serve on committees as assigned.

9. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

– Earned PhD or other terminal degree in an academic discipline housed in the College

– Record of achievement, with increasing administrative responsibility, in a comprehensive university environment

– History of tenure and eligible for tenure at an Associate of Full Professor level. Tenured, with experience teaching at the university level

– Experience with attaining and maintaining health professions program and academic accreditation

Preferred Qualifications

– Evidence of intellectual and scholarly achievement

– Experience in grant administration

– Problem solving ability

– Record of scholarly achievement in teaching, research/creative activity and service that meets qualifications for membership on the Graduate Faculty as well as tenure in a unit within the College

– Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds of students, faculty and staff

– Commitment to scholarship and the value of interdisciplinary collaboration

– Experience as an academic leader whose collaborative and consultative style will inspire faculty and staff to excellence and innovation in teaching, research and community partnerships
